Dog-Friendly Breweries in Chicago: The Complete List

Updated April 2026 · 6 min read

Chicago's craft brewery scene is thriving, and a growing number of taprooms are rolling out the welcome mat for dogs. Whether you want to bring your pup inside on a cold January evening or sit on a sunny patio together in July, there's a brewery for that.

We compiled every dog-friendly brewery in Chicago with the detail that actually matters: can your dog come inside, or is it patio only? Here's the full list.

Breweries Where Dogs Are Allowed Inside

These are the gold standard. Your dog can come inside the taproom, not just the outdoor area. This makes them year-round options, which matters when Chicago winter stretches from November to April.

Solemn Oath Still Life -- Logan Square

Solemn Oath's Logan Square taproom welcomes dogs inside and on the patio. The space is comfortable, the beer is excellent, and the staff genuinely likes dogs (you can tell). This is many Chicago dog owners' go-to.

Monochrome Brewing -- Archer Heights

One of the few South Side options on this list, Monochrome allows dogs inside and on the patio. It's a great choice for dog owners in Archer Heights, Brighton Park, and surrounding neighborhoods who don't want to trek to the North Side for a dog-friendly beer.

Is/Was Brewing -- Ravenswood

A cozy Ravenswood taproom that welcomes dogs inside. The vibe is relaxed and the crowd tends to skew toward locals who walk over with their dogs. If you're in the Ravenswood / Lincoln Square area, this is your spot.

Metropolitan Brewing

Metropolitan welcomes dogs both inside and in their outdoor area. Known for their German-style lagers, this is a chill spot where dogs are part of the scenery, not an exception.

Spiteful Brewing -- Balmoral Ave

Dogs are welcome inside, and it's BYOF (bring your own food -- for humans). The casual atmosphere makes it one of the most dog-relaxed breweries in the city.

Breweries with Dog-Friendly Patios

These breweries welcome dogs on their outdoor patios during the warmer months (roughly April through October, depending on the weather). Some have heated patios that extend the season.

Begyle Brewing -- Ravenswood

Patio only. Begyle has a nice outdoor space that works well for dogs. The neighborhood location means it's usually walkable for locals.

Pilot Project -- Logan Square

Patio only, but it's a good one. Pilot Project runs a "Dog Days of Summer" discount, which tells you how dog-friendly the culture is here.

Dovetail Brewery -- North Center

Seasonal patio. Dovetail is also known for hosting puppy yoga events, so they're clearly invested in the dog community. Worth following their events calendar.

Midwest Coast -- West Town

Patio only, but with a fun touch: they serve flights in dog bowls (for humans). They also host events with rescue organizations, making them a good community partner.

Burning Bush -- North Center

Patio. They give out free dog treats, which automatically earns them a top spot in your dog's personal rankings. Located near Horner Park, so you can combine a park visit with a beer.

Suncatcher -- Lincoln Park

Patio, dogs must be leashed. A good Lincoln Park option for post-walk drinks.

Whiner Beer Co -- Back of the Yards

Patio only. Another South Side option, located in The Plant food business incubator. Unique setting and good beer.

District Brew Yards -- West Loop

Patio only. A shared brewery space in the West Loop with multiple brewers under one roof.

Off Color Mousetrap -- Lincoln Park

Patio, dogs must be leashed. Off Color's taproom has a great outdoor space.

Duneyrr -- South Loop

Patio only. One of the few dog-friendly brewery options in the South Loop area.

ERIS Brewery -- Old Irving Park

Patio, with heated outdoor seating that extends the season. Good for fall visits when other patios have closed.

Half Acre -- Bowmanville

Beer garden, dogs must be leashed. Half Acre is one of Chicago's most popular breweries, so expect crowds on nice days.

Empirical Brewery -- Foster Ave

They sell pet merchandise, which gives you an idea of how dog-forward they are. Patio-friendly for dogs.

Tips for Brewery Visits with Your Dog

  • Call ahead. Policies can change seasonally or based on the day. A quick call saves a wasted trip.
  • Bring water and a bowl. Some breweries have water bowls out, but don't count on it.
  • Keep your dog leashed unless explicitly told otherwise. Even at dog-friendly places, leashed is the default.
  • Go during off-peak hours for the first visit. Tuesday evening is calmer than Saturday afternoon. Let your dog acclimate to the environment without the stress of crowds.
  • Know your dog. If they bark at strangers, get anxious in new spaces, or are reactive to other dogs, a busy brewery patio might not be the right setting. That's okay.
  • Tip well. Staff at dog-friendly venues deal with extra cleanup, occasional barking, and the general chaos that comes with dogs. Show appreciation.

Beyond Breweries: Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Bars

If breweries aren't your thing, Chicago has over 85 dog-friendly restaurants, bars, and cafes across the city. Twelve of them have actual menus designed for dogs -- including Barrio in River North ("Bark-io" menu), Bandit in West Loop ("Pup Picks"), and The Rambler in North Center ("Howlin' Ramblers" menu).
