Dog-Friendly Patios in Wicker Park & Bucktown
Updated April 2026 · 5 min read
Wicker Park and Bucktown are two of the most walkable, dog-dense neighborhoods in Chicago. On any given evening, the sidewalks along Milwaukee and Damen are a parade of dogs and their owners heading to dinner, drinks, or the park. The restaurant and bar scene has caught on -- patio season here is dog season.
Here are the best spots to eat, drink, and hang out with your dog in Wicker Park and Bucktown.
Restaurants with Dog-Friendly Patios
Big Star
The massive patio at Big Star is one of the most iconic outdoor dining spaces in Chicago, and dogs are welcome. The tacos are excellent, the whiskey list is deep, and the energy is lively without being overwhelming for most dogs. Go on a weeknight if your dog prefers a calmer scene.
The Perch
The Perch stands out for having an actual brunch item for dogs -- the "Scruffy Scramble." That's the kind of detail that tells you dogs aren't just tolerated here, they're part of the experience. The patio is comfortable, and the brunch crowd tends to be relaxed and dog-friendly.
Tortello
Fresh pasta with your dog at your feet. Tortello's patio is cozy and the food is outstanding. Not the biggest outdoor space, so it works best for dogs who settle under the table rather than those who want to socialize with every passing pedestrian.
Antique Taco
Antique Taco's Wicker Park location has a nice patio, but their Bridgeport location actually has a larger one if you're willing to make the drive. Either way, good tacos and a relaxed vibe that works for dogs.
Ina Mae Tavern
Southern-inspired food, strong cocktails, and a dog-friendly patio. Ina Mae's outdoor space gets afternoon shade, which is a real asset on hot summer days when you're trying to keep your dog comfortable.
Fifty/50
A neighborhood staple with a solid burger and a patio that works for dogs. Nothing fancy, but reliable -- which is sometimes exactly what you want when you just need a place to sit down with your dog after a walk.
Bars & Breweries
Lottie's Pub
Lottie's has one of the bigger patios in Bucktown and a casual atmosphere that's naturally dog-friendly. It's a good spot for an afternoon beer with your dog on a weekend.
Midwest Coast Brewing -- West Town (nearby)
Just south of the Wicker Park / West Town border, Midwest Coast deserves a mention here. Their patio welcomes dogs, they serve flights in dog bowls (for humans -- it's a theme), and they host events with rescue organizations. If you're walking south on Ashland, it's an easy detour.
Maplewood Brewery -- West Town (nearby)
Another just-outside-Wicker-Park option in West Town. Worth verifying their current dog policy as it can vary, but they've historically been dog-friendly on the patio.
Dog Parks Nearby
Part of what makes Wicker Park and Bucktown so good for dog owners is the proximity of off-leash parks to restaurants. You can tire your dog out at the park, then walk to dinner.
Wicker DFA (1425 N Damen Ave) -- Right in Wicker Park. Fenced off-leash area with a regular community of dogs and owners. After a session here, your dog will be content to lie under a patio table.
Churchill DFA (1825 N Damen Ave) -- In Bucktown, this park has separate areas for small and large dogs. It's one of the more popular dog parks in the city, and the Damen corridor makes it easy to walk from the park to any of the restaurants listed above.

Tips for Patio Dining with Your Dog
- Tire them out first. A 30-minute park session before dinner makes everything easier. A tired dog is a well-behaved patio dog.
- Bring a water bowl. Some restaurants will bring one, but having your own collapsible bowl means you're never waiting.
- Choose your table wisely. Corner tables or spots against walls give your dog a sense of security and keep them out of the foot traffic path.
- Bring a chew or stuffed Kong. Gives your dog something to focus on while you eat, rather than staring at your plate.
- Know when to leave. If your dog is stressed, barking, or pulling, it's okay to get your food wrapped up and go. You can always come back another day.
- Tip generously. Patio staff deal with extra cleanup when dogs are involved. Acknowledge that.
